The Blackberry Curve is a quad-band RIM OS phone with full QWERTY keyboard and 2 MP camera. It was released a few months before the Blackberry Curve 8310 and Blackberry Curve 8320.

The 8300, 8310 and 8320 are the same, except the 8310 has GPS and the 8320 has Wi-Fi (No GPS). That's it. Curve 8300 vs 8310 vs 8320.

Design

QWERTY keyboard

QWERTY keyboard - Actual Size

The Curve 8300 is available in 2 colours - titanium or red (deep red colour). The 8310 is 107 (h) x 60 (w) x 15.5 (d), 111 g.

Trackball: Navigate around the screen using the ball.

Front: 35-key QWERTY, trackball, 2.5-inch display, earpiece.

Back: 2 MP camera, LED flash, mirror.

Left: 3.5 mm jack, miniUSB.

Right: Volume, camera key.

Features

2 MP Camera

1600 x 1200 pixel photos (2 MP). Image quality is OK. There's no video capture. You can change settings such as white balance, colour effects and picture quality.

No 3G, No Wi-Fi

EDGE download speeds - can be a tad slow. The 2.5-inch screen gives reasonable viewing area. The browser is simple - not as good as the Nokia, Safari or Opera Mini Web browsers.

If you want GPS, buy the Blackberry Curve 8310. Want Wi-Fi instead? Buy the Blackberry Curve 8320.

Other features include the media player (you can download Roxio Media Manager), miniUSB, bluetooth, push-email, 3.5 mm audio jack and microSD card slot.

Summary

The Blackberry Curve 8300 is a very-decent phone for emails and texts. There's no 3G, Wi-Fi or GPS - if you need either of those, choose the 8320 or 8310 respectively.

If you haven't used a Blackberry QWERTY keyboard before, it's a good idea to trot along to a shop. The keys are tightly packed - you might prefer a phone with a larger QWERTY keyboard.
