SUMMARY

Quad-band QWERTY-keyboard Blackberry phone with 2.5-inch screen, Wi-Fi and 2 MP camera. The Curve 8320 is good for emailing/texting and Wi-Fi Internet access. No 3G and no GPS.

Review

The Blackberry 8320 is a quad-band phone with full QWERTY keyboard, Wi-Fi and 2 MP camera. The Curve 8320 has the same features and design as the 8310 - except the 8320 has Wi-Fi instead of GPS.

Both 8320 and 8310 have Blackberry Maps, EDGE, QWERTY keyboard, microSD memory card slot, media player and memory card slot. The other (older) Blackberry Curve phone is the 8300.

Design

QWERTY keyboard

QWERTY keyboard - Actual Size

The Curve 8320 is available in 2 colours - titanium or red (deep red colour). The 8320 is 107 (h) x 60 (w) x 15.5 (d), 111 g.

Front: 35-key QWERTY, trackball, 2.5-inch display, earpiece.

Back: 2 MP camera, LED flash, mirror.

Left: 3.5 mm jack, miniUSB.

Right: Volume, camera key.

Trackball: Navigate around the screen using the ball.

Features

2 MP Camera

1600 x 1200 pixel photos (2 MP). There's no video capture. White balance, colour effects and picture quality settings are available. Image quality is OK. There's an LED flash and 5x digital zoom.

Blackberry Maps

Get colourful maps and satellite views. Data charges apply - maps are downloaded as you move position. You can see your approximate location on a map using Google Maps with My Location.

'My Location' triangulates your position using nearby towers. Google state within 1000m accuracy. Not very accurate, but perhaps better than nothing. Accuracy is better in high cell-density areas - towns, cities; less accurate out in the countryside etc (where there are fewer base stations).

There's no inbuilt GPS, but you can use a Bluetooth-enabled GPS receiver, which will work with Blackberry Maps.

Other Features

Bluetooth, miniUSB, media player, document viewers, RIM OS, BrickBreaker game, organiser, PIM applications, Push-Email, 3.5 mm audio jack and microSD card slot.

Summary

Decent quad-band phone for emailing/texting and Internet access (over Wi-Fi). There's no 3G (only EDGE), so Internet access is slow if not using Wi-Fi.

If you want GPS instead of Wi-Fi, buy the Blackberry Curve 8310.
