Review

The Levi's Phone (Levi, Levis) is the Levi's branded fashion phone, designed by ModeLabs. Key features include 64 MB phone memory, memory card slot, tri-band, 2 MP camera, FM radio, video player and recorder, Bluetooth, USB and PIM tools.

The Levi's Phone (it's not Levi's phone, it's mine) is available in 5 colours and a limited edition Red Tab edition. Overall, looks good, average features.

Design

The phone does look good - riveted 100% stainless steel criss-cross (or striped) patterned casing (uses screws), mirrored surface. It's very thin - just 11 mm (slips into those tight Levi's jeans) and it's quite wide at 55 mm. It looks like a fancy big lighter.

The Levi Strauss & Co. logo (old style - two horse logo) is etched onto the back, and the LEVI'S brand name is on the front (top), and 'THE ORIGINAL' is printed beneath the 1.8-inch screen. Reasonably lightweight - 98 g. 6 tiny screws on the front and back (corners and middle) perhaps help give the phone a quality solid feel.

Packaging: Black and red box, big horse logo on the top. A case and a chain are included in the box, as well as software, USB cable, phone, charger and battery.

Chain: Attach the Levi's phone to your jeans or a bag - clip to the bottom of the phone. There's nothing quite like a big chain hanging by your side to advertise to pick-pockets you've got a Levi's phone in your pocket.

Front: 1.8-inch screen - 220 x 176 resolution, keypad.

Back: 2 MP camera with LED flash. Positioned at the top in the black section. Nicely done - blends in well.

Left: Volume key.

Right: Camera key.

Bottom: Microphone, hole to clip the chain on (screw it in).

Keypad: Fine. Thin wide keys with good separation between the keys.

Levi's Phone

Customised Levi's Phone: You can get a customised Levi's phone direct from the Levi's Store. It does cost a lot more money.

Customisations include adding your own message to the back of the phone, triangle patterns, scratch patterns and choose your own colour combinations. Alternatively, choose one of the fab colours and get the phone for half the price - £149 on PAYG (April 2008).

Here's a 4-minute unboxing video from Cellular Magazine (Italian Web site). Notice the big chain - you could lock your bike up with it.

2 MP camera with 4x digital zoom, video capture, LED flash, white balance, ISO, night mode, photo editor. Average image quality. The flash isn't very bright.

FM radio: Plug in the supplied earphones.

3 games, PIM tools (calendar, calculator etc), Bluetooth, USB, WAP browser.
