SUMMARY:
A yummy fashion phone. Not many features, and 128 MB maximum memory capability limits its use as a music phone. If you want a good-looking fashion phone for an excellent price - just £34.95 on PAYG, the LG Chocolate is worth a look.LG Chocolate Kg800 Review
The LG Chocolate is a trendy slider phone with touch-sensitive buttons. Launched back in May 2006, the LG Chocolate is still a popular fashion phone.
Target market = those who want a pretty phone. Glossy black surface, touch-buttons glow red, smooth slider, big keys, thin (15 mm - easily slips into pockets)... Lovely.
Is the LG Chocolate a girly phone? We think it's a little.. feminine (it's a pretty fashion phone), but lots of men have bought it.
Colours: Black, lilac, wine, white, pink, silver.
The LG Chocolate KG800 is not feature-packed, its features don't compare well to the newest mobile phones. However, if all you need is the basics, the LG Chocolate is fine. Best part is - you can buy one for under £40 on PAYG (April 2008). Excellent value.
Design
Front: Earpiece, 2-inch 176 x 220 pixel screen, soft keys, confirm key (enclosed by silver rim), clear, send, navigation keys (to the sides of the silver rim).
Left: Volume keys. When slider is open - change the volume. Closed: LCD light on, in menu: scroll up/down, during call: earpiece volume.
Right: End key (on/off (hold), end/reject a call), camera/mp3/multimedia hot key - activates mp3 player (long press), multimedia menu (short press).
Back: Battery latch, charger/cable/ear jack connector. The camera lens and flash are at the top back of the front panel. Slide the front up to reveal them.
Keypad: Slide up to reveal the alpha-numeric keypad. Big keys, easy to press. The keys alternate - glossy, matt, glossy, matt - a chequered effect. The slider is smooooooooth.
Ending calls: Press the end key on the right side of the phone, or simply slide the slider down.
Touch Button: The area beneath the screen is touch-sensitive - it only responds to warm touch - we think it's a capacitive screen. No accidental key presses when in your bag or jeans/trousers pocket.
The touch pad keys glow red when in use. The keys are responsive. Sometimes, you have to press again - same happens with all touch-sensitive phones. The touch pad is deactivated when the slider is shut and when you're in a call.
Grubbytastic: Glossy black plastic. It's a universal law - glossy black plastic on mobile phones does a tremendous job of showing up greasy fingermarks.
Scent Marketing: A lot of stores used good old scent marketing - spray concentrated chocolate essence around the LG Chocolate displays. Brand, experience, associate fine-smelling yummy chocolate with the phone - more sales here we come. As one salesman put it - "create excitement.. its brand experience, identity... create an identity, an experience around the device". Scent marketing - enhancing a brand image through aroma.
Stand out in the crowd: Yes, turn heads everywhere when you show-off your LG chocolate phone. Toronto LG event 2006:

Features
1.3 MP camera
Not too hot compared to most new mobile phones. There is an LED flash and you get 4x digital zoom. Settings include: brightness, size, timer, quality, white balance, album, mode, effect, flash and zoom. No macro, no auto-focus. 4x zoom (not at max. resolution).
The camera is slow to start up, and there's a big shutter lag. Image quality - passable, providing you take the photo in good light. Compared to the latest camera phones, the camera is rubbish. There is 176 x 144 pixels video capture (at 15 fps).
128 MB Phone Memory
128 MB phone memory, but no memory card slot. OK to store some songs on. If your priority is music, then of course buy a music phone with ample memory capacity.
Web Browser
Oh dear. WAP 2.0 browser. 176 x 220 resolution. GPRS only, no EDGE, no 3G. Move along now. Nothing to see here.
Other Features
Calendar, bluetooth, voice recorder, Sudoku game, calculator, clock, unit converter, business card creator, music player (simple), USB mass storage, photo album, video album. You can plug your own earphones into the 3.5 mm adapter.
Summary
The LG Chocolate KG800 is a stylish fashion slider phone. Launched back in May 2006, the Chocolate still sells at the top mobile shops. The chocolate lacks features compared to current phones, but it looks good.
If you want a good-looking fashion phone which is good at the basics, the LG Chocolate is worth a look. You can buy an LG Chocolate phone for just £34.95 on PAYG (April 2008). Bargain.
