The LG Shine is a tri-band slider fashion phone. Brushed metal casing, a screen which is also a mirror (when not in use), 2MP camera with flash and EDGE data connectivity. The LG Shine is quite cheap now - under £60 on PAYG.

LG Shine = Lady Phone: When not in use, the 2.2-inch screen can be used as a mirror. It's highly reflective - just like a real mirror. The LG Shine is a girly lady phone.

A phone with a mirror screen. Girl. If the silver LG Shine isn't girly enough, LG also sell a pink version. Look at your hair, sort your lipstick and/or face-cement out, or pull silly faces. Not sure why anyone would want to look at themselves each time they use their phone. How irksome - even for the more beautiful amongst us. We think O2 sold the LG Shine at their Web site with some lipstick.

Design

Well-built, reasonably heavy - 119 g. Brushed aluminium casing, smooth slider action and it feels solid in the hand. Build quality is fine.

Grubby: The front gets grubby. Greasy fingers... yuck... Clean that phone...

Front: 2.2-inch screen, earpiece, navigation key. The navigation key is unique - a central roller button (scroll through menus, press to confirm), and two side buttons - left: contacts, right: favourites. A soft key sits to either side of the navigation key. We think it's OK, although it's likely a lot of people won't like it, or will find it fiddly.

Slide the front panel up reveal the keypad and microphone hole. The keypad has nice big flat keys. Similar to the LG Chocolate keypad - the keys are easy to use.

Right: Battery charger connector/cable connector/ear jack, side keys (volume up/down, key tone volume, earpiece volume), MP3 key, side camera key.

Back: 2MP Schneider Kreuznach lens, LED flash. Remove the back cover (all the back panel) to get to the battery, SIM card holder and microSD memory card slot (which sits beneath the SIM slot). Press the battery cover latch on the top of the phone to remove the back cover.

Features

2 MP Camera

2 MP camera with Schneider Kreuznach lens. LED flash, auto-focus, shoot mode, resolution, quality, self-timer, multi-shot, metering, colour effect, white balance, shutter tone. Image quality is fine - be sure to keep the phone still when shooting. Taking photos in good light helps too.

Capture video at 176 x 144 resolution. Quite feeble, but better than nothing.

MP3 Player

Equalizer, shuffle, repeat, playlist, visual effects, sort songs... Stereo headphones with a remote are in the box. Loudspeaker - doesn't like loud bass sounds - gets distorted.

WAP Browser

Basic browser. EDGE download speeds are slow compared to 3G and HSDPA download speeds. 2.2-inch screen - too small for a decent Web browsing experience.
