SUMMARY

The 5610 xpressMusic is a 3G slider version of the 5310 xpressMusic candybar phone. Near-identical feature-set to the Nokia 6500 Slide.

Review

The Nokia 5610 XpressMusic is a 3G slider version of the Nokia 5310 XpressMusic candybar phone. Key features include a music player (with dedicated Music Slider Key), 3.2 megapixel camera, 3G, quad-band, and microSD memory card slot (supports up to 4 GB).

The 5610's features and design are nearly identical to the Nokia 6500 Slide. The dimensions of both phones are similar (the 6500 Slide is a little heavier).

The 6500 Slide does have a several extras: TV-out support, Carl Zeiss optics (assume a bit better camera image quality), and has a stainless-steel casing. April 2008 price for the 5610 - approx. £ on PAYG - the 6500 Slide is just £20 more.

Design

1.7 cm thick - a little chunky compared to many of the thin phones. Black glossy plastic front panel and keypad. Looks cheap? Maybe. The shiny black plastic does look a little cheap. You might think it looks fine. Perhaps great. The black plastic surface does get grubby. Build quality is fine.

The 5610 is available in either vibrant red or blue trim. The grey back cover is dimpled and a big Nokia logo. It has a sort of 'young/active/sporty' look.

Top: Charger connector, battery cover release, microUSB connector, 2.5 mm audio connector. A 3.5 mm adapter is included in the box.

Front: Earpiece, 2.2-inch screen, light sensor, front camera.

Right: Volume rocker, camera key/autofocus.

Bottom: Strap eyelet.

Back: Loudspeaker, camera lens, dual LED flash.

Keypad: Glossy black plastic. Keys are easy to press.

Features

Music Player

Use the Music Slider Key to access the music menu and radio. Slide it left for the music menu, right for the FM RDS radio. The music player is fine. You get all the basic music player features. A 512 MB microSD card is included in the box (4 GB card possible).

Remove the battery cover to get to the memory card holder - the battery cover release button is on the top. Hot-swappable. No need to remove the battery.

The loudspeaker volume and supplied earphones are fine. You might want to use your own earphones - plug them into the 2.5 mm port using the adapter.

Camera

3.2 megapixels (2048 x 1536 pixels), dual-LED flash, auto-focus, 8x digital zoom, quality settings, white balance, self-timer, 15 fps 640 x 480 video capture. Image quality is fine. As with many camera phones, photos taken in poor light won't look great.

Web browser

EDGE, 3G, 2.2-inch screen and Opera Mini - fine for the screen size. Use Yahoo Go! to search the Web.

Other Features

Organizer tools, FM radio with RDS, visual radio, video player, 4 games, City Bloxx, Music Guess, Rally 3D, Snake II, voice commands, Push-To-Talk, Nokia Music Store (transfer music files from your computer) and a secondary camera for video calling (176 × 144). Internal memory is just 20 MB.

Summary

The Nokia 5610 XpressMusic is a good 3G music phone. Its features are very similar to the stainless-steel cased Nokia 6500 Slide. IF you prefer a candybar design, check out the Nokia 5310 XpressMusic or any of the latest music phones.
