SUMMARY:
Tri-band 3G HSDPA dual-slider phone with 3.2 MP camera, DNSe, dual speakers and 2-2-inch screen. A music-focussed phone with microSD card slot (up to 8 GB). No Wi-Fi or GPS. 3.5 mm audio jack.Samsung F400 Review
Samsung's latest music phone. Good effort. The F400 has a dual slide design (just like the Nokia N95 8GB. A music-focussed handset, the F400 key features include the dual speakers, DNS2 2.0 (sonic experience), audio technology by Bang and Olufsen, music recognition and music hotkey. A 3.5 mm audio jack, multifunction jack (for a 20-pin headset) and a microSD card slot (up to 8 GB) rounds it off.
Price: Approx £210 on PAYG, - August 2008. As ever, prices come down as time progresses.
Design
Dual-slider design. Slide up to reveal the keypad, slide down to reveal the dual speakers and to activate the music menu.
Speaker quality: Pretty good, nothing spectacular. We think some of the Sony Ericsson music phones are perhaps louder and might sound better.
Front: Camera lens (for video calling), earpiece, 2.2-inch display, jog disc, navigation keys, mouthpiece, keypad. Keypad keys are well-spaced, easy to press.

Top: 3.5 mm headset jack, strap hole.
Right: Multi-function jack, music player key, camera key.
Left: Volume keys, microSD memory card slot (up to 8 GB).
Back: Camera lens, LED.
Features
3.2 Megapixel Camera
We didn't test the camera. No idea on the quality. It's likely to be mediocre. The LED flash isn't very bright, so low-light shots won't be good. The latest camera phones have 8 MP - samsung i8510.
Dual Speakers
Audio technology by Bang and Olufsen ICEPower, DNSe 2.0, dual speakers. Sounds impressive on paper. Actual performance is better than your average phone. You can annoy other people at the bus stop by playing Britney Spears classics. Plug in your headset to the 3.5 mm audio jack on top of the phone.
Shazam - Music Recognition
A successful ID costs 50p or get 300 IDs per month for £3 per month. Nice little earner. If the tune can't be recognised, then there is no charge. Dial 2580 from your phone. Standard call charges apply.
Battery Life - Mediocre
960 mAh battery. Samsung quote 4.5 hours talk time.
Summary
Decent music phone. 1 GB or 2 GB memory card included in the box. Dual-slide design, store 2000 4 MP tracks on an 8 GB card, FM radio, standard featured music player, music recognition, all for approx £200 on PAYG.
