Samsung J700 Review

The J700 is an entry-level slider phone. Key features include: Tri-band (no good for much of the Americas), EDGE (no 3G, so slow Internet access), 2-inch screen (with small 128 x 160 pixel resolution), Bluetooth 2.0, USB 2.0, FM radio, 1.3 MP camera (rubbish), 10 MB phone memory (tiny) and a microSD card slot (2 GB).

The J700 is available in black or purple (Orange). Buy the J700 for under £50 on PAYG. Cheap as chips.

Design

Looks fine. Glossy surface. Samsung say "Show your style, without breaking the bank". Yep, accurate. Looks fine, entry-level features. Very suitable for people who want a simple feature set at a cheap price.

Slide up to reveal the 1.3 MP camera. No flash. Yes, not very good compared to other camera phones, but OK for taking grainy low-detail photos.

The keypad is flat with big keys. Fine.

Features

1.3 MP camera with 12x zoom, , FM radio, music player (MP3, AAC, AAC+, e-AAC+), video player (MPEG4, H.263), Web browser, EDGE, SMS, MMS, email... Basic stuff.

10 MB phone memory is paltry. Insert a microSD card into the slot (up to 2 GB).

800 mAh battery. Samsung state 3 hours talk time. For a non-3G phone, that's quite feeble, but may well be adequate for you, particularly if you use your phone as little as MobileSift's chief.

Summary

Cheap entry-level phone. Decent enough build quality, glossy finish. You can buy a Samsung J700 for under £50 from many of the mobile phone shops.
