SUMMARY:
Stylish 3.2 MP Sony Ericsson 3G camera phone with Xenon flash. A thinner version of the K800. Consider the 5 MP Sony Ericsson K850i.Sony Ericsson K810i Review
The K810i Cyber-shot phone is a nifty 3G 3.2 megapixel camera phone with plenty of features. Its specifications are very similar to its predecessor's - the K800 - the differences are mostly aesthetic.
Design
Keypad: We liked the keypad, although a little extra vertical spacing between the round keys would have been nice. The keypad has a shiny clear plastic casing. Fingerprints are very noticeable on the plastic. Because the buttons are small, the finger always makes contact with the clear surface. It gets grubby-looking quickly.
The small round keypad buttons might not be to your liking - they are perhaps a little too widely spaced and people with large chunky fingers might find the vertical spacing between the keys too short.
The joystick doesn't stick out enough from its circular recess. It could do with having a bit more space around it to help easier selection. In fact, all the keys above the keypad are a little cramped together.
Features
Camera: The 3.2 megapixel camera is good. Taking quick shots can be a problem - there's a shutter release lag (time between pressing the camera button (once focussed) and the photo being taken). The K810i's shutter release lag is approximately 1.4 seconds. Using the image stabilizer can help reduce possible blurring due to hand movement.
The K810i's camera lens cover is a sliding mechanism which clicks into place. This helps prevents accidentally sliding the lens cover open. Much like the other plastic parts of the K810i, fingerprints are very noticeable.
The image stabilizer compensates for small hand movements and metering mode (normal or spot) lets you adjust exposure. You can also select different shutter sounds, turn on night mode and use the flash (off, auto or red-eye reduction).
When in camera mode, little blue icons light up to the left of the 1, 4, 7 and asterisk keys. These act as shortcuts to the camera settings menu.
Summary
The K810i is an excellent phone. The keypad gets a bit grubby and you might not like the small metal keys. A thinner and better-looking version of the K800.
