SUMMARY:
Stylish 3G mobile phone with a decent 3.2 MP camera and music player. Good battery life (7 hours talk time). Tiny square buttons might not be to your liking.Sony Ericsson T650i Review
Sony Ericsson T610i - stylish 3G phone with 3.2 MP camera, video calling and M2 memory card slot. The T650i comes with a desk stand - plugs into the connector, a 256 MB M2 memory card and leather pouch - to help keep your brand new phone scratch-free.
Design
The T650i is thin (just 12 mm) and average weight. The top half of the T650i is stainless steel, the bottom half is plastic - the back cover is metal-coated plastic.
Screen: The 1.9-inch TFT screen isn't very large, but it is decent quality. Most mobile phones cover the LCD display with a plastic layer. The T650i is different - the screen is mineral glass. Mineral glass is supposedly more scratch-resistant.
Keypad: Small square keys - much like those on the Sony Ericsson K850i. They're well-spaced and easy-to-press - little chance of accidentally hitting an adjacent key. The keys are fine for texting.

The T650i has light effects - the keypad lights animate in wave patterns - in idle mode, when you turn the phone on/off, alerting to a call and screen saver... It's one of those "look at what my phone can do, ain't it cool?" features.
Memory card slot: There is an M2 memory card slot (supports up to 2 GB) beneath the back cover. It is hot-swappable.
Desk stand: The T650i comes with a desk stand. The stand clips into the connector port. Connect a charger, USB cable and handsfree.
Back cover: Slide the battery release slider on the top of the phone to release the back cover. Easy enough to do.
Features
3.2 Megapixel Camera
Uses the CyberShot interface. Pretty good image quality - not quite as good image quality as the latest CyberShot phones - K810i or K850i. Makes sense.
The camera lens on the back of the T650i sticks out - it detracts a little from the looks of the phone. There's no camera lens cover.

Press the camera button on the right side of the phone (from standby) to activate the camera. Camera settings include LED flash, shutter sound, macro mode, effects, white balance, shooting mode, scenes, night mode, image quality, image size and self-timer. There's no BestPic feature.
Video capture: Just QCIF resolution (176 x 144). Only good for MMS and having a little chuckle viewing the video on a 30-inch monitor. Video is captured in 3GP format.
Music player
Uses Walkman Player v1. Supported formats: MP3, MP4, M4A, 3GP, AAC, AAC+, enhanced AAC, AMR, MIDI, IMY, EMY, WAV and Real 8. Artists, tracks, playlist, videos. The supplied earphones are pretty good.
3G
3G video calling is supported - there's a front-facing VGA camera. Download from the Internet at 3G speeds (384 Kbps). 1.9-inch screen = not great for browsing. There's no EDGE connectivity.
Call quality
Call quality - pretty pointless telling you about it. The key call-quality factor is the mobile network signal quality. 3G calls can give better quality than 2G calls. Telling you "the reception was great" is not very useful at all.
Summary
The Sony Ericsson T650i is a stylish 3G mobile phone with a decent 3.2 MP camera and music player. Its battery life is good (7 hours talk time) and the sales package includes a pouch, desk stand and 256 MB memory card.
You can buy the T650i SIM-free, on PAYG, or get it subsidized (for free) on a mobile phone contract.
